“I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail.” -Abraham Maslow

That quote lead me to this story idea:
If Everything Was A Nail
It was hard hammering with one hand and making any progress, especially when it was your left hand and you’re right handed. He swung hard again making another gouge in the board, but no more progress on that stubborn nail. Glaring at the cast on his right arm, cursing it in his mind, he swung again and again, but that nail seemed to dodge every attempt he made at hitting it. The next swing was to throw the hammer across the back yard where it made a satisfying bang before falling to the too tall grass below. ‘Guess that will leave another unnecessary dent in the wood,’ he thought to himself.
Back in his prime he’d been able to do just about anything he tried with either hand. Now, after many years of handling the heavy hoses, prying open many a door on cars and buildings alike; being blasted through the air more times than he could count, among other things he loved, he just didn’t seem to be able to drive that nail. As he grabbed the now warm beer from the patio table and slid down into a chair, the fire captain couldn’t help but wonder if his crew saw him as the failure he felt like right now.
